Jefferson County sees possible tornado, 18-foot creek level jump

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – Heavy rain, high winds, and even a possible tornado hit northwest Jefferson County Tuesday afternoon.

The Woods Basement Systems Storm Runner came across a damage track that stretches from northwest to southeast across northern Jefferson County. The damage runs from near Devon Road down to Highway 30 near Cedar Hills Lutheran Church off Silver Drive.

Numerous trees were toppled, and several power lines were down. The National Weather Service will have to survey the damage to confirm the tornado that several people in the area say they saw.

Meanwhile, heavy rain was the story with today’s storms further north.

In Affton, Gravois Creek jumped nearly 18 feet in just a couple of hours as 2+ inches of rain inundated the region.

Raging water surged out of the creek and spread out across the ball fields at the Affton Athletic Association. At the crest, 2–3 feet of water covered the park, where all games have been cancelled until further notice, including a weekend of tournament games.

The water stayed clear of the nearby Affton Ice Rink, with only a small amount of water finding its way into the locker rooms.
