Jeremy Clarkson says he will 'vote for any party which stops police running over cows' after shock video

Jeremy Clarkson has spoken out about the horrific moment an escaped cow was rammed by a police car twice.

The 10-month-old calf, named Beau Lucy, was wandering the streets of Surrey on Friday night when a police vehicle hit the animal, causing it to be thrown across the road and then pinned under the car.

The footage, which circulated on social media, has sparked widespread outrage, with prominent figures like Chris Packham condemning the incident.

Clarkson has now joined in expressing his disapproval and wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “I will vote for any party which stops the police from running over cows.”

Replying to a follower’s comment about telling Prime Minister Rishi Sunak about his social media post “next time you pop around for a chat”, Jeremy added: “Never met him but if I do, I’ll be sure to bring it up.”

Since Clarkson’s Farm debuted in 2021, the former Top Gear star has been vocal about animal welfare.

Recently, the Prime Video star shared his heartbreak over the alarming number of pig deaths on his Diddly Squat farm, just ahead of the third season's release.

“You don’t say, ‘Let’s buy some pigs and hope they die,’ I’ve always liked pigs,” he shared before recalling his childhood fondness for them. “My mother used to buy me toy pigs every Christmas and birthdays.”

He continued: “I thought it would be fun to have them, and then they just died in alarming numbers.

“It was very heart-breaking, I’d never ever seen Lisa [cry], not once ever, until that all started. It was just terrible.

“I mean they still die, but we’re getting more used to it now, we’re a bit more robust. We’re a bit stronger at dealing with it now. But it was a very heart-breaking time.”

The police officer who used his car to ram the escaped cow has been removed from frontline duties, Surrey Police said.

The incident happened on Friday at around 8.55pm after the force received reports that a cow was running loose in Staines-upon-Thames.

Deputy Chief Constable Nev Kemp said: “I fully appreciate the distress our handling of this incident has caused and will ensure that it is thoroughly and diligently investigated.

“In addition to an internal referral to our Professional Standards Department, we have also referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for independent consideration.

“At this time, the officer who was driving the police car has been removed from frontline duties pending the outcome of these investigations.”

Home Secretary James Cleverly had asked for a “full, urgent explanation” as to why officers used the car to ram the escaped animal, saying it seemed “unnecessarily heavy handed”.

The animal, Beau Lucy, is “limping” but doing “a lot better” and taking medicine to treat her injuries, according to her farmer owner.
