Jet ski collision kills Northern California teen

(FOX40.COM) – One person is dead after a fatal jet ski crash in Northern California, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.

SCSO deputies said they responded around 2:45 p.m. to reports of a boating collision on Lake Shasta. The crash happened in Shannon Cove, near Sacramento Point, between two teens and a 21-year-old man.

Upon arrival at the scene, SCSO found the teens, ages 18 and 19, injured on the shoreline. The 18-year-old reportedly had injuries to his chin and face. The 19-year-old sustained a knee injury. Deputies said the teens had been operating a jet ski when they were hit by another jet ski being operated by a 21-year-old man who did not require medical attention.

Deputies transported the two victims to Bridge Bay Marina where medical crews were waiting. After their arrival to the marina, the 18-year-old victim became unresponsive, according to SCSO. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the victim will be released pending notification of next of kin, and the incident remains under investigation by the SCSO Boating Safety Unit.
