Joplin Police hold neighborhood block party today, have officer memorial on display Monday

Jul. 19—The Joplin Police Department will hold a Neighborhood Block Party from 4-6 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Schifferdecker Aquatic Center at Fourth Street and Schifferdecker Avenue.

There will be a free swim, free hot dogs and beverages. There also will be activities and displays of emergency vehicles.

Officer memorial on display

A police officer memorial, "Beyond the Call of Duty," will be in Joplin on Monday to display a rolling tribute to fallen officers, including Officer Jake Reed and Cpl. Ben Cooper. The two men were killed March 9, 2022, by a suspect they were speaking with about a report of shoplifting at a retail store.

In Joplin, the memorial can be seen at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Joplin Police Department, 303 E. Third St.
