KSNF/KODE — A Joplin woman admits her role in a fraud case that involved hundreds of victims.

This week, Emily Sturgis, 30, admitted that she and another man, Aaron Blake, 26, stole mail out of residential mailboxes that included credit cards, debit cards, checks, cash, jewelry, and other documents containing personal identifying information.

The couple was caught in January after a concerned resident in Briarbrook called 911 reporting a suspicious vehicle stopping at multiple homes in the neighborhood.

Police tracked the suspects down at the Casey’s General Store in Briarbrook.

That’s where they found a laundry basket full of mail, including credit cards and debit cards.

Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser said he couldn’t recall a time when they had this many victims of mail theft at one time.

Both have now pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
