Judge Munley’s wife heads to recovery after deadly crash

JESSUP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The wife of Lackawanna County’s Judge Tom Munley is in the hospital recovering from a crash Thursday morning.

The judge’s wife had her first surgery last night and a second one Friday. It was a medical emergency that caused the driver to lose control of the car, striking Jodean Munley, other objects, and ending here at the cemetery wall.

During their usual routine morning walk, Jodean Munley and her son Logan were involved in a serious accident.

“We heard a big bang and we turned around the car was coming too fast,” said Logan

A 73-year-old woman, now identified as Sister Anne McDonald of Dunmore, experienced a medical emergency, lost control of her vehicle, striking Mrs. Munley, then crashing into a fence, a fire hydrant, and finally, a cemetery wall.

“She did a complete flip in the air, she landed on the ground and she was barely breathing. I was screaming trying to wake her up, it took a little bit but she finally woke up,” stated Logan.

Jodean Munley sustained several injuries.

“She has a fractured pelvis in two places, a fractured spine in two places, three fractures in her arm, torn ligaments in her knee, and her whole body is bruised, scraped, and bleeding,” says Logan.

Logan says it was a scene straight out of a nightmare.

“Just a terrible tragic accident and I’m in shock, I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. It didn’t feel real, it was like a dream, like a nightmare, not a dream,” explained Logan.

To Logan, his mom is his everything.

“She motivates me every day, I love her so much, she takes care of me, she’s my everything, she’s the most important person in the world to me,” said Logan.

Support has been a beacon of hope for the Munley family.

“We have the most supportive family in the world it’s unbelievable, that they all like some drove hours to get here, such a supportive family, and I’m so thankful for that,” continued Logan.

Mrs. Munley had surgery last night and another one today, Logan says she will have to undergo more surgeries in the coming weeks and asks everyone to keep her and his family, and the driver’s family, in your thoughts during this time.
