A 2019 ad where Vice President Kamala Harris targets former President Donald Trump has resurfaced as she launches her official presidential campaign. In 2020 Harris, a former senator, sought to win the Democratic primary and run for the White House, losing to President Joe Biden.

“I prosecuted sex predators. Trump is one. I shut down for-profit scam colleges. He ran one. I held big banks accountable. He’s owned by them. I’m not just prepared to take on Trump, I’m prepared to beat him,” details the caption on X, then known as Twitter, introducing the clip to online audiences.

The video itself continues to explain, “He’s tearing us apart, she’ll bring us together,” the ad continues. “This is Trump, and in every possible way, [Harris] is the anti-Trump.”

On Sunday (July 21) as President Biden announced he would no longer seek reelection, he also shared his support for the VP to take his place.

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” elaborated Vice President Harris across social media, accepting the endorsement. “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

By Monday morning, according to Axios, the Harris campaign had experienced a significant surge in funding, detailing “everyday Americans have given $49.6 million in grassroots donations to her campaign.” Additionally, the $96 million in campaign finances raised for President Biden’s now-defunct campaign were being transferred to the vice president’s name Sunday.

While VP Harris has received support, she is not yet the official nominee of the Democratic party. Others may throw their name into the ring ahead of the Democratic National Convention, set for Aug. 19-22 in Chicago. There, the nearly 4,700 delegates will select and announce the party’s representative.

According to Axios, the DNC’s rule committee has scheduled a meeting to discuss implementing a framework to select a presidential nominee. It is planned to be broadcast live from YouTube on Wednesday (July 24).

Under the current DNC guidelines, pledged delegates are bound to initially vote for the candidate they’re assigned. However, Biden has withdrawn his campaign, and delegates are free to support whomever they choose.

“Here in Chicago, our mission remains the same. During the convention, we will have an opportunity to show the country and the world who Democrats are and what we stand for,” details a statement from DNC Chair Chair Minyon Moore issued on Sunday.

“Over the past year, we have been building the stage – literally and figuratively – for President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats to tell our story to the American people. The historic progress Democrats achieved under the Biden-Harris Administration will still be central to that story, as will the story of what is at stake in this election.”

Despite the political chaos following President Biden’s announcement and his own attempted assassination, former President Trump is steadfast in his campaign.

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was!” he exclaimed per ABC News. “All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t.”

He continued, “We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
