Kansas City sex offender pleads guilty in child pornography case

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City registered sex offender pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing more than 1,000 images and videos of child pornography according to the United States Department of Justice.

Dennis Bruce Bean II, 44, of Kansas City, Missouri pleaded guilty to U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs on Wednesday, July 17. He pleaded guilty to one count of transporting child pornography across state lines and one count of possessing child pornography.

Bean has a previous felony conviction of criminal sexual conduct, which has required him to be registered as a sex offender.

According to court documents, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received three reports associated with Bean via CyberTipline. One of those reports, from January 31, 2024, said that 1,442 files of child pornography were uploaded to Bean’s Google Photos account in the previous two months.

Court documents say that the following April, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Bean’s residence. Bean was found hiding in the backyard, and arrested.

During the search of Bean’s residence, officers seized two cell phones and a one-terabyte thumb drive. The thumb drive was reported to have over 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse and erotica. The phones were also found to contain at least 100 images and videos of similar nature.

Under federal statutes, Bean is subject to a minimum sentence of five years in federal prison without parole. The maximum sentence is 40 years in federal prison without parole.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 3, 2024.

This case was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the FBI.
