Kitchen flies. Bar nozzles with organic growth. Charleston area restaurants worst June inspections

South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at restaurants in the Charleston area in June, from kitchens with flies to dirty bar nozzles and mold in coolers. The regularly releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments in the Charleston area.

Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in June.

Bricco Bracco at 1161 Basketweave Dr. in Mount Pleasant

Bricco Bracco had an inspection on June 17 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed major fly activity in the kitchen area.

Organic matter was seen inside the ice machine. Chicken was seen stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler. Floors in the kitchen were seen in poor repair.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 18 and got an A grade.

Crab Du Jour at 2150 Northwoods Blvd in North Charleston

Crab Du Jour had an inspection on June 13 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed a buildup of organic matter in the ice machine.

Excessive food buildup was seen inside the microwave. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Dust and grease build was seen on hood filters in kitchen.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 14 and got an A grade.

The Shelter Kitchen and Bar at 202 Coleman Blvd in Charleston

The Shelter Kitchen and Bar had an inspection on June 18 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed organic matter on bar nozzles, the ice plate and in the ice machine.

Certain foods were seen not kept at the proper holding temperature. Sections of the walk-in cooler were unable to maintain the proper temperature. Grease and organic matter were seen on equipment and shelving. Grease accumulation was seen on floors and walls.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 20 and got an A grade.

Bedford Falls at 430 Meeting St. in Charleston

Bedford Falls had an inspection on June 5 and got a B grade.

An inspector observed flies in the facility.

A buildup of mold was seen in the coolers. Employees were seen eating in the kitchen area. Raw chicken was seen stored over ready-to-eat items. Multiple items were missing expiration dates, such as cooked wings, chicken, pork and sauces.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 12 and got an A grade.

Chico Feo at 122 E Ashley Avenue in Charleston

Chico Feo had an inspection on June 3 and got a B grade.

An inspector observed the service window propped open, allowing flies to enter.

Dishes were seen being washed but not sanitized. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Raw sausages, pork, tofu and other foods were seen held at room temperature without time stamps.

There were discolored cutting boards found. The shelving for cook line equipment was seen soiled.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 21 and got an A grade.

King Acai and Bubble Tea at 1740 Signal Point Road in Charleston

King Acai and Bubble Tea had an inspection on June 21 and got a B grade.

An inspector observed food in a warmer stored on the floor. Also observed was single service items stored on the floor.

Food containers were seen washed but not sanitized.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on June 27 and got an A grade.

Saltwater Cowboys at 130 Mill Street in Mount Pleasant

Saltwater Cowboys had an inspection on June 19 and got a B grade.

An inspector observed flies in the secondary prep kitchen.

Shelving in several locations was corroded. Soiled equipment was seen on the cook line and on shelving. Bar nozzle holders were seen heavily soiled.

The restaurant failed its required followup inspection on June 25. A second followup inspection has not yet been held.
