What to know about this weekend's road closures before you make travel plans

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced a litany of road closures for travelers to be aware of during the upcoming weekend.

Such closures include parts of Interstate 10 near Sky Harbor Airport and Loop 101, while southbound I-17 will be reduced to one lane in north Phoenix between Friday and Saturday for improvement projects. The agency recommends drivers allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.

Westbound I-10 closed between US 60 and I-17

Westbound lanes on I-10 closed between US 60 and I-17 near Sky Harbor Airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for work. Broadway Road will also be closed near I-10.

The agency advised drivers to use eastbound Loop 202 or eastbound US 60 to northbound Loop 101 and westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to reach Sky Harbor Airport or downtown Phoenix. Those in the southeast valley or westbound or northbound Loop 202 to reach I-10 near 59th Avenue in the West Valley.

Southbound I-17 narrowed to one lane between SR 74 and Dixileta Drive

Southbound I-17 will be reduced to one lane between SR 74 and Dixileta Drive in north Phoenix from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a pavement improvement project. The southbound I-17 on-ramp at Loop 303 will also be closed.

Southbound Loop 101 closed between Loop 202 and US 60

Southbound Loop 101 will be closed between Loop 202 and US 60 in Tempe from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for lane striping and other pavement marking work. Those in the area can exit ahead of the closure and use Hayden Road or McClintock Drive instead.

Northbound Loop 101 closed between Raintree Drive and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard

Northbound Loop 101 will be closed between Raintree Drive and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard in north Scottsdale from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge work while Northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Shea Boulevard and Cactus Road will also be closed. ADOT said possible detours include exiting at Raintree Drive and entering Loop 101 at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard.
