KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo rescues injured owl

KTLA 5 Morning News meteorologist Henry DiCarlo helped rescue an owl he found injured on the side of the road on his way to work Thursday morning.

Henry was crossing the Gypsum Canyon Bridge to get on the 91 Freeway when he noticed the owl standing on the road.

“I thought something is not right about that owl. So, I turned around, and the owl could not fly,” Henry said.

He decided to pull over and call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Thinking of how his wife Lisa told him never to leave an animal on the side of the road, he waited with the owl for a deputy to arrive.

“I’m like, you know what? I could be late to work and get in trouble for one day, or I could be in trouble for the rest of my life if I leave that owl behind,” Henry joked during KTLA’s morning newscast.

A short time later, Deputy Guevara arrived and helped get the owl into a ventilated plastic container.

“Yeah, no problem. I hope you can make it to work,” Deputy Guevara said as Henry thanked her.

The owl was taken to the OC Animal Care for treatment.

“We are going to track the owl … Hopefully, it’s reintroduced back into the wild, but if we have to find it a forever home because that’s not possible, we’re going to do that,” Henry said.

He also suggested a couple of names for the owl and asked KTLA’s viewers to weigh-in.

Henry’s ideas were “Gypsum,” as in Gypsum Canyon Bridge, or “Linda” because it was found in “Yorba Linda.”

“I throw this out to our KTLA viewers,” Henry said.
