Laguna Beach police searching for suspects who threw homemade bomb into bed of pickup

Police in Laguna Beach are searching for those responsible for throwing a homemade bomb into the bed of a pickup truck and fleeing the scene earlier this month.

It happened on Sept. 2 just before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Coast Highway and West Street, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department.

Witnesses described three to four males riding in a white Mercedes-Benz sedan who threw a homemade bomb, known by law enforcement as an improvised explosive device, into the bed of a parked pickup truck.

The bomb went off and caused major damage to the vehicle, police said.

The suspect vehicle, a 2022-2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS, then sped away from the scene.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the driver of the suspect vehicle, which was captured by a witness’s dashboard camera.
