Laguna Beach police searching for suspects who threw homemade bomb into bed of pickup
Police in Laguna Beach are searching for those responsible for throwing a homemade bomb into the bed of a pickup truck and fleeing the scene earlier this month.
It happened on Sept. 2 just before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Coast Highway and West Street, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department.
Witnesses described three to four males riding in a white Mercedes-Benz sedan who threw a homemade bomb, known by law enforcement as an improvised explosive device, into the bed of a parked pickup truck.
The bomb went off and caused major damage to the vehicle, police said.
The suspect vehicle, a 2022-2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS, then sped away from the scene.
Police are asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the driver of the suspect vehicle, which was captured by a witness’s dashboard camera.
Anyone with information about the incident or the suspects involved is urged to contact the Laguna Beach Police Department tip-line at 949-715-0984. Anonymous tips can be provided online or by calling Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-847-6227.
