LAPD wants help tracking down driver who struck skateboarder, fled scene
The Los Angeles Police Department is offering $5,000 for the public’s help in tracking down a driver who struck and injured a 14-year-old skateboarder in South Los Angeles in February.
The boy, whose identity has not been released, was riding on a sidewalk along Ursula Avenue in Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw just before 7 a.m. on Feb. 2, police said in a news release.
Video shared by police showed the teen turn down a driveway in between parked vehicles before he was struck by an SUV, which police say then continued north on Ursula without stopping.
Police said they believe the vehicle is a silver or gray four-door SUV, perhaps a Honda Element or Honda Pilot.
The teen, meanwhile, suffered “pain to his hand and elbow,” police said.
A reward of up to $5,000 is available for help in tracking down the driver and bringing the case to a criminal conviction or civil settlement.
