Man dies after stabbing, accused of sexual assault attack: Las Vegas police

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A man was killed after a stabbing which police said may have started as a sexual assault attack on a woman in the northeast Las Vegas valley.

The incident took place shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Laurel Avenue near Charleston Boulevard and Pecos Road after reports that a man had been stabbed, Las Vegas Metro police said.

Once officers arrived they found an injured man believed to be in his 50s in a back alley. He was taken to a nearby hospital with stab wounds. The man was pronounced dead once he arrived at the hospital.

According to the preliminary police investigation and witness accounts, before the man was stabbed police believe that he had been engaged in a possible sexual assault against a woman in her 30s in a nearby dirt lot.

Witnesses also told police that during the sexual assault, a group of citizens heard the woman screaming and ran to assist her and removed the man. Police believe that may have been when the man was stabbed. Afterward, the citizens that came to the woman’s aid left the scene. The man who had been stabbed then ran from the area and was later found by police in a rear alley.
