Last victim in Rochester Hills splash pad shooting released from hospital
The last of nine victims in the Rochester Hills splash pad shooting, a 39-year-old Rochester Hills mother, has gone home.
On June 15, a suspect, later identified as 42-year-old William Michael Nash, of Shelby Township, randomly opened fire on families at the splash pad, leaving nine people injured. The gunman died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the mass shooting, police said.
The woman and her two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy, were all injured in the shooting. The woman was shot multiple times while trying to protect her children from the gunman. Her 8-year-old, who was seriously injured after being shot in the head, was released from the hospital on June 28, and her 4-year-old was released following a wound to the thigh.
Previously, a GoFundMe identified the three as members of the Bebout family and asked for donations to accommodate the Bebouts as the father, the sole provider of income for the family, will have to take off work for an undetermined amount of time to support his family through their recovery. The GoFundMe can be accessed here.
The woman, who has not otherwise been identified, was finally reunited with her family at home nearly three weeks after the shooting.
“While we are incredibly pleased all shooting victims have been released from the hospital, we know there is a long road ahead on both the physical and psychological healing,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a news release. “Our support will remain with the victims, and we will continue to look for any information that gives insight into the motive of the shooter.”
The shooting remains under investigation.
