Law enforcement checks out about 300 vehicle drivers Friday

About 300 vehicles went through an OVI checkpoint Friday, when drivers were checked for impairment.

The event was held by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, with the assistance of the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and the Ashland Police Department, on Claremont Avenue in Ashland from 8-10 p.m. Friday.

The goal was to increase public awareness of the dangers of operating a vehicle while impaired and deter impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel.

Lt. Brad Bishop, commander of the Ashland Post, said, “Checkpoints are an effort to make motorists more conscious of the impaired driver problem in Ohio and to help bring about a reduction in the number of alcohol and/or drug-related crashes. I feel our efforts tonight helped get us closer to meeting those goals.”
