Lexington man who’s charged with robbing multiple gas stations, Sam’s Club arrested

Lexington police announced Monday they have arrested a man who allegedly went on a robbery spree in the city earlier this month.

Justin Clark, 31, was arrested Saturday and charged with three counts of first-degree robbery and theft by unlawful taking or disposition all others for stealing a bicycle, police said. All of the incidents took place July 7 between approximately 6 and 7:30 p.m.

The first incident occurred around 6:02 p.m. at the Speedway on the 1200 block of New Circle Road. Police allege Clark entered the store with a weapon and demanded money before fleeing.

Clark’s arrest warrant says he was armed with a baton, but the store clerk pushed him out of the store before he could steal any money.

The second robbery happened around 6:35 p.m. at the Clark’s Pump and Shop on Detroit Avenue, according to police. Clark was allegedly once again armed with a baton and threatened employees not to move before stealing $678 from the cash register, according to his arrest warrant.

The third incident happened around 7:25 p.m. at the Sam’s Club on New Circle Road. Police said Clark attempted to steal money and hit an employee with a weapon before fleeing the store.

Clark’s arrest warrant says he tried to steal a donation bucket from an employee and hit the employee in the leg with a baton. The employee suffered a minor injury.

Investigators were able to identify Clark as the suspect through surveillance footage, body-worn camera footage from previous interactions and conversations with his acquaintances, according to police. He was found by an officer on a stolen bicycle Saturday.

Clark is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond for the first robbery charge, a $2,500 bond for the second robbery charge, a $1,000 bond for the third robbery charge and a $1,000 bond for the theft charge, according to jail records. He was arraigned in Fayette District Court Monday afternoon.
