Liberty University acquires VTI to expand trade training

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR)– Liberty University announced it has acquired the educational components of Virginia Technical Institute (VTI) in Altavista.

With the acquisition, Liberty will use VTI’s programming and resources to enhance its current for-credit courses, expanding them into the not-for-credit environment for the university’s Center for Professional and Continuing Education. Students who are interested in learning a skill or trade will be able to gain the necessary skills to quickly enter the workforce instead of spending several years earning a degree.

“I believe this new acquisition reinforces our commitment to expanding skilled trade training,” said Liberty Provost and Chief Academic Officer Scott Hicks. “This strategic move will further the university’s mission to Train Champions for Christ by preparing students, the community, and beyond for successful careers in critical trades and further strengthening the future of our workforce.”

VTI and Liberty have collaborated for more than a decade, with students in Liberty’s Technical Studies Program taking courses at VTI in welding, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and more.
