Liquor store to close in State College, another to open
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — When one door closes, another opens — literally. The Commonwealth is moving a state-owned liquor store to a former State College Rite Aid.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) approved opening the new Fine Wine and Good Spirits store in the former Rite Aid at 1536 North Atherton Street. The new store will replace the store at 1682 North Atherton Street.
The move was approved during the PLCB meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 18. They also approved the closure of a Fine Wine store in Port Marion, Fayette County.
As for when the State College move will occur, it’s expected to happen in 2025 after some renovation of the former Rite Aid to fit what the spirit shop may need.

Rite Aid on North Atherton was the final one to close in State College, months after the company filed bankruptcy and began closing stores nationwide.
