“Not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” stated former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo, yesterday during an appearance at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy. “Not only is what I’ve just said about the danger Trump poses something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don’t believe we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states.”

During  Cheney's endorsement of the Democratic candidate for president, she emphasized her position as “a conservative," and "as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution,” and who has “thought deeply” about the decision.

"She is a patriot who loves this country and puts our democracy and our Constitution first," says the Harris campaign's chair Jen O’Malley Dillon in a response statement last night. "Vice President Harris will be a president for all Americans, regardless of political party. For any American who is looking to reject the chaos and division of Donald Trump, turn the page, and pursue a new way forward that protects our freedoms and defends the American values we all believe in, there is a place for you in the Harris-Walz coalition, and we will continue working to earn your support.”

The daughter of former vice-president Dick Cheney, Cheney joins Republicans Rep. Adam Kinzinger (who joined her on the Jan. 6 committee and just spoke at the DNC) and former Rep. Denver Riggleman, backing Harris. So far more than 200 alumni of the Bush administration as well as Republicans who worked on Sen. John McCain and Sen. Mitt Romney campaigns, have announced their endorsement of Harris.

In local Harris campaign news, second gentleman Doug Emhoff is scheduled to make an appearance in Los Angeles today, according to multiple outlets. Emhoff will speak at an —as of this writing— unannounced reception in the city. He and Harris are residents of Brentwood who come to town regularly when not in D.C. or on the trial.
