Lloyd Doggett calling on Biden to withdraw was a stunt and an act of disloyalty | Letters

Lloyd Doggett publicly asked President Biden to withdraw from the presidential ticket, and in doing so has shown that he is willing to embarrass the leader of his own Democratic party. If Doggett has something to say, he has direct lines of communication and does not need to communicate with President Biden through public statements or the media.

Doggett’s call for Biden to end his reelection bid is a political stunt. If Biden decides not to continue the race or loses, being the first congressional Democrat to publicly ask Biden to quit may be 77-year-old Doggett’s last opportunity to have a footnote in history – his last chance for relevancy, even if it is for a despicable act of disloyalty. The entire Texas Democratic delegation should condemn Doggett’s statement. Biden has devoted his life to serving our country. He has achieved greatness. He deserves better and should ignore Doggett.
