LMPD detective faces felony charges for May crash in Mount Washington

A Louisville Metro Police detective faces two felony charges in connection to a May collision involving his unmarked police vehicle in Mount Washington.

Det. Timothy Davis is on administrative leave after Mount Washington Police issued a warrant for his arrest Tuesday, LMPD spokesperson Matthew Sanders said in a statement. Davis was booked in Louisville Metro Corrections Tuesday after he was arrested by LMPD officers. An arraignment hearing is set for July 8 at 1:30 p.m. in Bullitt District Court, according to court documents.

On May 18, Davis allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed his vehicle into two trailers in a parking lot at Landis Lane and Park View Avenue in Mount Washington while traveling 50-60 mph, according to an arrest citation. Davis was originally cited for disregarding a stop sign and issued a $163 fine. There were no injuries reported from the scene of the crash, Mount Washington Police stated in a Facebook post.

New charges against Davis, including first-degree criminal mischief and tampering with physical evidence, were filed Wednesday in Bullitt District Court, according to court records. First-degree criminal mischief and tampering with physical evidence are classified as felonies in Kentucky.

Sanders said Mount Washington Police conducted an investigation following Davis' arrest, but did not say why the charges had been upgraded.

Before suspending Davis, LMPD reassigned Davis to "an administrative light duty capacity" on May 21 and required him to surrender "certain issued equipment" while Mount Washington Police investigated the incident, Sanders said.
