Local animal rescuer aids dog left on highway for three days

VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) – A dog that laid injured on the side the road in Ville Platte was rescued by local couple.

It’s believed a vehicle likely hit the dog, which broke its kneecap. It laid on the side of Chiot Park Road in Ville Platte for three days. Motorists passed by the dog, but no one seemed to stop and help the animal. Matthew and Bre of Heroes Everywhere Animal Rescue got the call and immediately responded. They knew the dog would require medical care, but they could not afford it since they were running a large, makeshift shelter that houses other homeless and needy animals.

Matthew contacted the Humane Society of Louisiana, but they were also to pay for the services. Jeff Dorson, HSLA Director, agreed to help. They brought the dog to a local veterinary hospital, where the attending veterinarian diagnosed the dog’s injury as a broken kneecap. In turn, they named the dog after him, “Dr. Danny.”  The Humane Society paid for the visit and set up a GoFundMe for his treatment and aftercare. The group is looking to raise $850.

“Evangeline Parish is experiencing a pet overpopulation crisis that will only worsen,” said Jeff Dorson, HSLA Director. “We urge parish and state officials to work together to secure funds from local, state, and federal sources to build a facility, however modest,” Dorson added.

The Humane Society points to a 58-page report that details the need for the state to take an active role and lead in helping stray animals in its report published in 2012. To raise money for spay/neuter surgeries, the Humane Society, with the help of State Representative Lauren Ventrella introduced and passed a bill (now Act 44.)
