Jul. 18—Monday's council meeting canceled

GOSHEN — Due to a lack of agenda items, the Goshen Common Council will not meet Monday, July 22, as scheduled.

The next regular meeting of the council is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 12, in the Police-Court Building, 111 E. Jefferson St., in downtown Goshen.

Goshen Orthopedics welcomes surgeon

GOSHEN — Fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon Bryan Boyer has joined Goshen Orthopedics. He provides care for patients with a wide range of disorders and injuries to bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.

In addition to general orthopedic surgeries, Dr. Boyer specializes in total joint replacements of knees, hips and shoulders. He has advanced training in minimally invasive procedures to treat bone and joint conditions in the spine. In addition, Dr. Boyer has 20 years of subspecialty experience in orthopedic trauma surgery.

"Our community also benefits from the extensive experience Dr. Boyer brings in minimally invasive procedures that alleviate pain and restore mobility."

Dr. Boyer earned a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Indiana University, Bloomington. Dr. Boyer completed fellowship training in orthopedic surgery at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio. His residency was at Akron General Medical Center, Akron, Ohio.

Celebrate summer reading

ELKHART — Elkhart Public Library will celebrate a record-setting Summer Reading Challenge today at the Tolson Center for Community Excellence.

From 3 to 6 tonight at the Tolson Center, 1320 Benham Ave, enjoy activities, games, crafts, food, inflatables and a rock-climbing wall. From 6 to 7:45 p.m., the party continues just for teenagers.

At 4:30 p.m., award-winning children's performer Jim Gill will host a free concert. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair.

Froggy 102.7 radio will broadcast live during the event, too.

The party is free for the whole family. Participation in the Summer Reading Challenge is not required to attend.

This year, even more local kids have logged reading throughout the challenge than ever before.

Prize winners will be announced between 5 and 6 p.m. including the grand prize Potawatomi Zoo experience with sloth encounter and a hotel stay. Other prizes include a LEGO set, laser tag set and more.

The Summer Reading Challenge is supported with the partnerships of Ranger Distribution and Froggy 102.7 to encourage kids to read what they want for the summer for fun and a chance to win great prizes.

Goshen resident on dean's list

TAMPA, Fla. — The University of Tampa has honored 2,221 students who were named to the dean's list for the Spring 2024 semester. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible for the dean's list.

Among them was Carmen Calderon of Goshen, a junior majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice.

Magic show on last summer reading day

BRISTOL — The last program for Summer Reading at Bristol Public Library will include a magic show.

Food starts at 5 p.m. and will include walking tacos and lemonade.

The program will begin at 5:30, with Jeff Wawrzaszek putting on a magic show.

Don't forget to get raffle tickets.

Summer Reading logs are due July 27.

Top reader prizes will be announced in August.
