Local groups in Raleigh County trying to help a family in need with a fundraiser

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Tragedy recently struck a family of seven in Raleigh County.

The family lost all of their belongings in a house fire in the Beckley area.

Support for the family continued to grow, and that’s how Trena Dacal learned about the incident.

The Executive Director of the United Way of Southern West Virginia said she found out because of her own team.

“This particular team has some connections to this family, just some extended connections. So knowing the need that they’ve suffered and a family of seven has a greater need, they wanted to step in and do something directly.”

The United Way started to look into how they can help. They noticed an immediate need of school supplies for the 5 kids in the family.

When they asked the community for help, Team Jamie and Cole from Dancing with the Stars added an incentive to their Bingo night.

Jamie Weeks is the co-owner of Calacino’s in Beckley and is proud to help the family out.

“That’s the reason why Cole and I got into this was for the ability to help people. And now that this family has suffered such a loss and has this immediate need, we have an immediate resource to help them.”

“It’s incredible to know that there was an immediate need here in the local community and that one of our dance teams, who already made great sacrifices of their time and efforts this team. To jump in and help knowing what this family is going through it means the world.”
