Local organizations are providing students with the school necessities they need.

Milwaukee Public Schools students received backpacks that they'll fill with school supplies donated by area residents through the third annual No Empty Backpacks School Supplies Drive at the school Wednesday. Students at a school assembly received more than 7,000 items, including 2,500 crayons and 1,600 pencils. Area residents dropped off items in July and August at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, other area businesses and more than 50 other community drop-off locations.

Summer is coming to an end which means back-to-school festivities are about to begin.

Local organizations across Milwaukee are host events for families to assist in a smooth transition into the new school year.
