Local podcast celebrates second year with community event

A local podcast radio station celebrated its second year of bringing positive stories to the community on Saturday.

We Promote Community Success podcast held a combined celebration and gospel explosion event at Jefferson Park on Buffalo Street in Shelby in honor of its second anniversary.

Jimmy Hall, known as DJ Dr. Jim, started the podcast in 2022 in part to realize his dream of owning a radio station, as well as to shine a light on people doing good things in the community.

During the event, three TVs donated by Walmart were raffled off and the proceeds will go back to several church ministries.

Hall said at last count, $7,000 had been raised through the raffle.

The event was free to the community and featured several speakers and vendors.

Hall said they got several churches and choirs together to help celebrate.

"That's what our aim is, to spread unity and that's what its all about," he said. "I think we are very close to 200 interviews, if not more than 200."

He said they have interviewed judges, local candidates, president of the community college, people with various organizations in the community and others.

Hall said they have big things on the horizon for the future and they are currently preparing for a back to school event, a Christmas event and a concert in November.

"I'm just thankful to the community because they are beginning to see what WPCS podcast is all about because we are doing things to make the community better and bring unity. That's what its all about," he said.

He said the gospel explosion and anniversary celebration was sponsored by David Thomas with Walmart, Damon Scott, with Allstate Insurance, David Smith with Ingles and Chalita Epps with Kentucky Fried Chicken.
