WADSWORTH, Ohio (WJW) — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to the scene of a deadly police-involved shooting late Tuesday night, Wadsworth police said in a news release.

They also said posts on social media about the shooting being related to the Wadsworth Blue Tip Festival or parade were false.

Police said they responded to a house on Durling Drive just after 9 p.m. for reports of a male armed with a gun and threatening suicide in his backyard.

Officers said shortly after they arrived on the scene, gunshots were fired. According to a spokesperson with Ohio BCI, Wadsworth police officers discharged their service weapons.

Police sources confirm to the FOX 8 I-team, that the man in his 50s allegedly pointed a gun at a woman and officers before he was fatally shot.

It’s not clear how many officers fired shots, or if the individual involved also fired a weapon.

The male was pronounced dead at the scene. His age and identity are not being released until family members are notified, police said.
