Teens held against their will saved in fiery crash

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — A police chase in Cleveland Heights ended in a fiery crash and the arrests of two men.

Two teens in the car — who were reportedly being held against their will — were transported to a hospital.

The incident unfolded at about 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, according to a statement from a city spokesperson.

Police officers tried to pull over a Mazda SUV that had been reported stolen out of Wickliffe. It was reported that two teens, 19-year-old sisters from Cleveland Heights, were being held in the car against their will.

Officers chased the SUV down several streets, before it crashed into a utility pole and caught on fire on Lee Road near East Overlook Road.

The driver fled on foot as the car burst into flames, but was caught after a brief foot chase, according to the statement. Police officers pulled out the three other people inside.

All were transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver and one of the two women remain in the hospital with what police believe are non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement. The passenger was released into police custody.

The suspect driver is a 38-year-old man and the suspect passenger is a 30-year-old man, according to the statement. Both are from Cleveland.

The stolen vehicle was towed to the police department for investigation.

Charges have not yet been filed. The incident remains under investigation.
