Local Verizon Wireless stores giving away free backpacks to ease back-to-school season

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)– Round Room, LLC, a Verizon Wireless authorized retailer, announced they will be giving away $3 million worth of free backpacks at locations throughout the Roanoke Valley and SW Virginia during its 12th Annual ‘School Rocks Backpack Giveaway’ event on Sunday, July 28.

As backpacks are a higher ticket item on the school supplies list and the average cost of supplies is valued at $890, Round Room, LLC hopes to take away some of the financial burden associated with the back-to-school season.

Organizers expect hundreds of families to line up and receive a free bag. The event will also host family-friendly activities for residents to participate in.

The backpack giveaway starts at 1 p.m. and lines are expected to form before the event begins.
