Long Bend Fire grows to 1000 acres in Wasco County

Editor’s Note: The fire was originally mapped to be around 2000 acres, but was later more accurately measured at around 1000 acres.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Long Bend Fire on the west side of the Deschutes River in Wasco County has grown to 1000 acres, Central Oregon Fire officials posted on X.

Officials say the fire started Saturday afternoon, burning approximately four miles southwest of Maupin on Bureau of Land Management and private lands and is 0% contained.

Fire crews are battling accessible portions of the fire while aircraft are supporting the fire crews at the edges of the fire, authorities said.

“The fire is moving toward rim rock in some places where it will act as a natural holding feature,” they said.

Slide Ranch Fire prompts Level 3 ‘Go Now’ evacuations in Yakima County

The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level 2 “Get Ready” evacuation notice due to the Long Bend Fire for all residences south of Hwy 216 from Natural Pasture Road to Blue Rock Road and east of Reservation Road and south of Hwy 216 to Natural Pasture Road

Officials are also encouraging any boaters in the area to be careful as helicopters may be dipping water out of the river.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
