Cook Out, a fast-food chain started in 1989, could soon be launching a long-awaited Louisville location.

Of the many fast-food chains Louisville residents wish were closer, Cook Out has often been brought up.

And a Louisville location of the North Carolina-based chain could soon be a reality.

Work will soon be underway to open a Cook Out at 2412 Preston Highway, according to records filed this week with Louisville Metro. The project calls to "construct an eating establishment with drive-thru and associated utilities and parking," according to the Louisville Metro Business Portal.

Cook Out will move into the former Rally's location, just south of Eastern Parkway.

The chain has more than 300 locations, including 11 spots in Kentucky. The current closest location is in Frankfort.

Interest in a Louisville spot appeared to be high in 2022 when Cook Out asked in a social media post where users would like the franchise to expand. Louisville placed second out of five cities, according to the post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Cook Out is known for a menu of burgers, barbecue, milkshakes, and chicken choices. It opened in 1989 in Greensboro, N.C.
