Loudonville High School to host open house for new greenhouse

The Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village School District will hold an open house for the new greenhouse at Loudonville High School 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12.

Light refreshments will be provided.

The greenhouse replaces the previous structure with a more accessible facility, complete with classroom space for students to explore potting, hydroponics and aquaculture.

The L-P School Board joined the FFA Alumni Monday in an effort to replace this 30-plus-year-old greenhouse on the Loudonville High Campus with a new greenhouse. The board approved buying a greenhouse kit, while the alumni will handle site preparation and assembly. Total estimated cost of the project is $350,000-$375,000.

“Our goals remain steadfast − to provide the highest quality education for our students in preparation for their futures, while ensuring long-term fiscal responsibility,” said Superintendent Jennifer Allerding. “This greenhouse was an important project for our agriculture students, allowing for new learning opportunities. The support our district received from the community helped make that possible. We look forward to sharing the new space with our Redbird community.”

The school board approved seeking bids to purchase a greenhouse kit in April 2023.

The project has garnered significant community support, including contributions from the Loudonville FFA Alumni & Supporters, Mohican Area Community Fund, Loudonville-Perrysville School Foundation, Ashland County Community Foundation, Hugo and Mabel Young Foundation and a variety of other donors.
