CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – President Donald Trump said he has no intentions of being “nice” during his campaign amid previous comments made from his camp that the former president’s rhetoric would be focused on uniting the country following the attempt on his life.

On Wednesday, to an incredibly energetic crowd of supporters, the former president said, “When you’re dealing with these people, they’re very dangerous people . . . you can’t be too nice. . . . if you don’t mind, I’m not going to be nice.”

This received massive applause from the close to 10,000 supporters who packed Bojangles Coliseum on Wednesday, with hundreds of people unable to get inside the doors due to limitations.

Charlotte was the former President Trump’s first stop since President Joe Biden announced he would no longer be running for re-election.

Supporters who spoke with Queen City News said they see the former president being able to beat anyone on the ticket, while the nominee downplayed poles showing VP Harris with a slight advantage in key demographics.

As he spoke for more than an hour and a half, the former president repeatedly mispronounced her name, labeled her “Lyin’ Kamala Harris,” but also spoke directly about policies he felt she failed on.

One of them, being immigration, which was at the top of the minds of every supporter we spoke with on Wednesday.

He said on day one he would, “terminate every single open border policy of the Biden-Harris administration, and we will seal the border and we will stop Kamala Harris invasion without delay. It’ll happen immediately.”

Brandon Judd, the President of the National Border Patrol Council, took the stage with Trump on Wednesday to state his own frustrations with border policies.

He said, “Under five presidents, and never have we seen a more secured border. The most secured border we’ve had was under Donald Trump.”

The former president spoke about crime being up in cities across the country.

While CMPD reported that crime is up 1% in the city, the national crime statistics from the FBI detail that this is not the same nationwide.

They reported that January and March of 2024 saw a decrease in crime when compared to 2023.

  • Murder was down 26.4%

  • Rape was down 25.7%

  • Robbery was down 17.8%

  • Property Crime was down 15.1%

A spokesperson for the former president’s campaign told news media, Trump would like to debate VP Harris, but logistics on whether that will still be on ABC on September 10 were still being discussed.

A spokesperson was also asked about the campaign’s response to House Speaker Johnson’s call on Republicans to avoid using “DEI” language when attacking VP Harris.

They responded with the campaign, “hasn’t done that.”
