Macomb County jury convicts man of child abuse in 2020 of his then-11-week-old son

A Macomb County man is to be sentenced in September after a Macomb County jury convicted him of abusing his then-11-week-old son in 2020.

Adam Doe, 36, was found guilty Friday of first-degree child abuse in Macomb County Circuit Court, according to the county prosecutor's office and court records. His sentencing is set for Sept. 18. Doe, of Harrison Township, was being held in the county jail, according to jail records.

Doe was accused of injuring his son, causing multiple severe brain injuries and fractures, according to a release Tuesday from the prosecutor's office. The incident occurred on Feb. 22, 2020, according to Dawn Fraylick, the office's communications director, and court records. Doe was charged in 2020.

The jury deliberated just over four hours, according to court records. Doe was acquitted of the charges of witness intimidation and domestic violence filed in a separate case that was tried at the same time.

"Our hearts go out to the young victim and his family, who have endured unimaginable pain and suffering," Prosecutor Peter Lucido stated in his office's release. "This conviction brings some measure of justice for the severe injuries inflicted upon this innocent child. We hope this verdict provides a sense of closure and reassurance that such actions will not go unpunished in our society."

Fraylick said Doe was living at a residence in Clinton Township when the injuries occurred four years ago. She said, per a police report, the boy's mother fed him and put him down, then she lay down and fell asleep because she was ill. Doe, who was the woman's boyfriend, left to go to the store and came back, Fraylick said. She said the boyfriend woke up the mother saying something was wrong with the baby.

The boy was taken to a hospital, Fraylick said, and it was discovered he had injuries that indicated child abuse. She said it was unclear in the police report how the child was injured, but said Doe was with the child at the time.

Doe's attorney, Brent Jaffee, declined comment on Tuesday.

The trial lasted three weeks, according to the prosecutor's office and court records. Fraylick said Doe could be sentenced to up to life in prison.
