The four Maine district attorneys who are elected Democratic women are “wholeheartedly” endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming presidential election.

“A proven leader of both a district attorney’s office and a state attorney general’s office, we know she will bring those skills to lead and serve our country well at a time when they are vitally needed,” the women said in a joint statement Thursday morning.

The women — Natasha Irving of Waldo, Knox, Lincoln, and Sagadahoc counties; Maeghan Maloney of Kennebec and Somerset counties; Jaqueline Sartoris of Cumberland County; and Kathryn Slattery of York County — said Harris was an example to them in their careers.

Before being appointed vice president under Joe Biden and elected as a U.S. Senator for California, Harris served as the first female District Attorney for the city of San Francisco and later was elected as Attorney General of California.

The Maine attorneys also praised Harris for her determination to address root causes of criminal conduct, which they said “was unique at that time,” in addition to a willingness to try new approaches.
