Man, 28, drowns in creek near Manhattan’s Harlem River
A 28-year-old man drowned in a creek near Manhattan’s Harlem River, police said Sunday.
Bypassers spotted the victim in the waters of Spuyten Duyvil Creek off Indian Rd. and W. 218th St. about 3:20 p.m. Saturday, cops said. The creek connects the Harlem and Hudson Rivers.
FDNY firefighters pulled him out of water and medics performed CPR while transporting him to New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where he died, cops said.
Police have not yet released his name. It wasn’t immediately clear what he was doing in the water.
On June 23, 49-year-old Carlos Flecha, died after he slipped and fell on the coast of the Harlem River near E. 132nd S.t and Lincoln Ave. in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, then struck a rock, his family recounted to the Daily News.
On Friday, teen sisters Aisha, 18, and Zainab Mohammed, 17, were pulled under the waves off Coney Island Friday. Two more teens, Elyjha Chandler, 16, and Christian Perkins, 17, were overtaken by the rough waters off Jacob Riis Park in Queens on June 21. All four youngsters died.
