Man, 31, killed while walking on SR-78 in Oceanside: CHP

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating after a man was killed while walking on SR-78 in Oceanside early Tuesday.

CHP officers were called to a pedestrian crash on SR-78 at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday.

CHP reports a 59-year-old woman from Escondido, who has not been identified, was driving a Mercedes Benz in the #4 eastbound lane of SR-78, west of El Camino Real, when her vehicle hit a 31-year-old Vista man.

Fire and paramedics from CHP responded to the scene of the crash and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. His identity will be released through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

CHP says the pedestrian accident is under investigation. It is not yet known if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor.
