Man, 40, dies in fatal shooting, 24-year-old man critically wounded within minutes of each other Friday night on West and South sides

A 40-year-old man was pronounced dead and another man, 24, was left in critical condition after being shot within minutes of each other Friday night on the West and South sides, Chicago police said.

The latest shooting happened at 11:35 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood.

Police said a 40-year-old man was inside of a basement apartment when someone he knew pulled out a gun during an argument and shot the victim to the chest and back. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A weapon was recovered, and charges are pending, police said.

Shortly before 11:25 p.m, another man, 24, was discovered critically wounded in the 7800 block of South Cornell Avenue, police said.

The man had suffered gunshots to his head and body, and was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was listed in critical condition. No one was in custody, but detectives are investigating the circumstances leading up to the attack.
