MONROE – An 84-year-old man died Sunday, three days after a two-vehicle crash on Union Valley Road in which he became entrapped in his car.
The man's name and hometown have not yet been released by police.
Around 6:44 p.m. Nov. 7, Monroe police dispatchers received a 911 call about a crash with possible entrapment on Union Valley Road near Angelo Court.
When police officers, firefighters, EMS and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics arrived, they located a crash involving a 2006 Toyota Camry and a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado.
A 32-year-old man who was driving the Silverado suffered minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, police said.
Monroe firefighters extricated the 84-year-old man who was driving the Camry and he was flown by New Jersey State Police Medevac helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He remained in critical condition until Sunday when he died, police said.
An initial investigation indicates the Camry was stopped in the shoulder of Union Valley Road and then entered the Silverado's lane of travel for an unknown reason, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by Sgt. Jabazz Spence and Officers Taylor Deickmann and Matthew Mangarella of the Monroe Township Police Department Traffic Safety Division. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Traffic Safety Division at 732-521-0222 ext: 126.
