Man accidentally shoots himself at Truman Elementary

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — In the middle of the pickup line at Truman Elementary School, a man accidentally shot himself.

According to Springfield Public School’s spokesperson Stephen Hall, a little before 2 p.m., a man, inside their vehicle, accidentally shot himself in the leg and was taken to the hospital to be treated.

No students were harmed.

Below is a note given to parents from Principal Sara Sevchuk.

Dear Truman parents:

Prior to dismissal this afternoon an individual in the car line suffered a medical emergency, which required an ambulance to respond. This incident did not involve any students or staff.

According to police, an individual was parked and sitting in their car when they accidently discharged a firearm and injured their leg.

I wanted you to be aware in case you saw emergency personnel on site and to assure you that this incident was not an intentional threat toward anyone at school.
