Man apologizes to police after pursuit into trailer park

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A police chase involving Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies ended in a crash and felony drug arrest Wednesday.

Just before 5 p.m., deputies saw a black Infiniti with no license plate driving northbound on Raleigh Millington Road near Egypt Central Road. Reports say the driver ran a red light in the area, causing deputies to turn on their emergency lights in an attempt to pull the driver over.

The driver refused to stop, initiating a pursuit. The driver continued northbound on Raleigh Millington until he was stopped by another deputy’s vehicle.

SCSO says the driver then crossed the road and began driving into oncoming traffic.

Deputies again attempted to make a traffic stop but were unsuccessful. The driver instead left the roadway and drove through a gas station parking lot, nearly hitting multiple people, reports say.

The driver then continued traveling northbound through an open field before he crashed into a tree line, which runs adjacent to the Allentown mobile home park on Chumbler Drive.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Robert Tomlinson, exited the car wearing only a black t-shirt, shorts, and no shoes and began running on foot. Deputies say he climbed a fence and entered the mobile home park, where deputies also continued the chase on foot.

Tomlinson was taken into custody shortly after the foot pursuit began.

Multiple clear plastic bags filled with marijuana were reportedly found in his pockets. More plastic bags containing marijuana were found in Tomlinson’s vehicle, along with a glass jar of THC wax, a digital scale, a marijuana grinder, and a water pipe.

When arrested, Tomlinson allegedly apologized to deputies for fleeing.
