Man arrested for allegedly abandoning malnourished dog in desert

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 29-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abandoning a dog in the desert after investigators found a video of the malnourished dog, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).

Marco Trent Butler, has been arrested on Wednesday, July 10, charged with cruelty to non-livestock and was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $45,000 bond, EPPD said.

On Tuesday, June 18, The El Paso Police’s Animal Cruelty Investigation Unit was made aware of a video taken of a malnourished French Bulldog, according to EPPD.

Investigators later identified Butler as the owner and that he has abandoned the dog in a desert area, EPDD said.

After the dog was found, it was taken to a vet for a health examination, EPPD said.

According to EPPD, the dog was severely emaciated, malnourished and dehydrated. The doctor explained to investigators the dog’s physical condition had happened between two to three months.

EPPD said the bulldog was release to MuttLove Dog Rescue and was later named Francesca, according to their Instagram account.
