Man arrested following domestic battery call, officer-involved shooting in Mid-City

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department’s Public Integrity Bureau is investigating after a domestic battery call led to an officer-involved shooting in the Mid-City area on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The NOPD reported that officers responded to the 3200 block of Bienville Street for a domestic battery call around 11 p.m. At the scene, officers said they found an armed man, who police identified as 29-year-old Justin Martin, and asked him to drop his weapon.

According to the NOPD, Martin allegedly did not comply, leading to a “gunfight between the suspect and the officer.”

Martin was wounded during the exchange and taken to a hospital after being treated at the scene.

NOPD officials said an initial investigation shows that the incident followed a domestic dispute.

No officers were injured, and Martin was taken into custody. He faces charges of domestic battery, aggravated assault against a peace officer and resisting arrest.

The shooting is being investigated by the NOPD’s Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team.

The NOPD did not release additional information.
