Man arrested in Georgia after a body was found in the shed of an SC home, cops say

A South Carolina man was arrested Monday in Georgia and charged with murder months after a body was found inside a backyard shed, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Jaquaez Bibbs, a 28-year-old North Augusta resident, was taken into custody in Richmond County, the department of public safety said Tuesday in a news release. Bibbs is being held without bond in an Augusta, Georgia, jail after being tracked down by members of the ATF Rage Task Force and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, according to the release.

Information about how law enforcement officers discovered Bibbs was in Georgia was not available.

In addition to murder, Bibbs is also charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and he’ll remain in Georgia until an extradition hearing is held, the department of public safety said.

Despite the arrest, the May 6 shooting of Jalen Jones continues to be investigated, and more arrests are expected, officials said.

Jones, a 22-year-old Aiken resident, was found by department of public safety officers who were responding to a shooting in the 300 block of Greenwich Drive, according to officials. That’s in Aiken, in the area between Silver Bluff Road and Whiskey Road.

Officers discovered Jones’ body inside a backyard shed, the department of public safety said. Jones had been shot multiple times and died at the scene, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.

There was no word about a motive for the shooting, but an arrest warrant said Bibbs “along with others” fired multiple shots and several hit Jones in the upper body.
