According to charging documents, Kansas City police officers responded to a disturbance at the hospital just after 9 p.m. Friday, July 12.

Officers contacted a security officer who stated they were contacted by a staff member when the suspect pushed his way into a restricted area. Security then contacted Valdes in an attempt to escort him from the property.

Valdes began to fight with security. During the fight, Valdes reached to his waistband and removed a handgun. Court documents say Valdes fired the handgun and then security was able to get him into custody.

Court documents say that Valdes told detectives that he was not on any medication or had taken narcotics or alcohol prior to the incident.

Valdes had a previous charge of domestic violence in Kansas but that charge was later dismissed.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
