Man charged with homicide after DUI crash with pedestrian in Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A pedestrian is dead and a 22-year-old was charged after a DUI crash Sunday evening, Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers confirmed.

According to court documents, Nathaniel Robert Beers, of Smithmill, was charged with homicide while DUI, homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle, reckless endangerment, DUI driving and numerous summary traffic offenses.

Beers was allegedly driving a side-by-side when he struck the pedestrian in Winburne Sept. 1, Sayers said.

According to a report later put out by state police, 81-year-old Robert Humenay of Grassflat was the pedestrian and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clearfield County Coroner. Beers was allegedly driving a 2024 Polaris RZR on Sportsman Road at around 5:42 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers noted that while the investigation was ongoing, they discovered that Beers left the scene and later returned. According to a criminal complaint, Beers admitted to having a few drinks at a local bar prior to this incident.

Police noted that the Polaris had a cracked windshield and broken headlight from the crash. It was also noted that ATV/UTVs are not authorized on Sportsman Road and that the UTV did not have a DCNR registration plate attached.

Court documents show that Beers was arraigned Monday morning and placed in Clearfield County Jail with bail set at $75,000.
