Man charged after security guard killed during fight at Tampa-area bar

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was charged with manslaughter on Sunday after a security guard was killed during a fight at a Tampa-area bar on July 2, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called at about 1:30 a.m. to Tally Ho Bar, Lounge & Grille on North 56th Street for a disturbance and learned that there was a fight between patrons and security.

Kenneth Washington, 50, a security guard who intervened, had a medical emergency after he was hit in the head by one of the patrons, according to deputies.

Washington was taken to a hospital where he later died.

An arrest warrant for manslaughter was issued on Friday for Joshua Valdibieso, 26, according to deputies. He had been arrested on a charge of battery at the time of the fight as the autopsy results weren’t available.

Valdibieso was located Sunday in Pasco County and was taken into custody, according to deputies.

“It’s tragic that a man lost his life due to senseless violence while simply doing his job,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing.
