Man dies after big-rig rollover in Taylor County

A 75-year-old man died Monday after sustaining injuries in a big-rig rollover crash in Taylor County, according to a media release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Monty Hale of Clyde was involved in the one-vehicle crash Monday morning, according to the DPS.

The Texas Highway Patrol's preliminary investigation found that Hale was driving a 2012 Western Star truck-tractor towing a dump semi-trailer at the time of the accident at 11:48 a.m. Monday.

The rig was traveling north on FM Road 382 about 4.5 miles west of Lawn when the driver failed to navigate a curve and veered off the east side of the road, according to the DPS. The driver overcorrected and lost control of the truck, causing it to roll over toward the passenger's side.

The speed limit was 70 mph, and the weather was dry and clear.

Hale was transported to Hendrick Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 1:02 p.m. Monday by a physician.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the DPS. The crash was investigated by members of the Texas Highway Patrol from Baird, Anson and Abilene.
