Man dies in crash after Dodge, Maserati race on Las Vegas street early Monday, police say

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 31-year-old man who died after a rollover crash early Monday was racing another driver when he lost control on Jones Boulevard just north of Sahara, according to Metro police.

The man who died, who police said had a St. Louis, Missouri, address, was racing his Dodge Challenger against a Maserati GHIBLI, traveling north on Jones at about 2:15 a.m. on Monday.

The driver of the Dodge and a female passenger were taken to UMC Trauma, but the man was pronounced dead despite efforts to save him. The woman, identified as Stacie Young, 27, also of St. Louis, sustained major injuries in the crash, police said.

The driver of the Dodge lost control as he crossed Sahara, leaving the roadway to the right and striking multiple fixed objects and overturning multiple times, police said.

The Dodge and the Maserati never collided, but a preliminary investigation found “racing being a contributing factory why the collision occurred.”

The driver of the Maserati, identified as Kashmir Newell, 36, remained at the scene, and was arrested on charges of reckless driving resulting in death and substantial bodily harm. He had a 24-year-old female passenger at the time.

The deadly crash is the 80th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.

The collision remains under investigation.
